Pretty neat for a hobbyist.
A Brooklyn father-and-son team captured some very impressive amateur video ever of the stratosphere using the video camera on their iPhone and a weather balloon.
Views from as high as 100,000 feet (19 miles) show the curvature of the Earth as the balloon rocks back and forth buffeted by the wind.
Luke Geissbuhle and his 7-year-old son, Max, researched the project for 8 months before launching their contraption from Newburgh, NY.
The balloon eventually burst and the gear landed 30 miles from the launch point in a tree, where the pair tracked it down via the iPhone’s GPS.
