Okaaaaaaay, FB is successful – wildly so. What’s yer point?
We all use Facebook. We VOLUNTARILY give Facebook our personal information: our age; where we live; whether we’re single or married…all that stuff. Voluntarily. You don’t have to. You could put bogus information in. Or you could not subscribe at all.
Facebook will undoubtedly make Mark Zuckerberg rich beyond his wildest dreams – except that he doesn’t dream about being rich, and that’s not why he’s doing this. Facebook will undoubtedly intrude into our lives in a way few people ever imagined, simply because it knows so much about us. I know that worries some people. But as far as I’m concerned, until that intrusion becomes bothersome, what do I care if they target me for specific advertising (even if it’s wrong)? Currently, Facebook does not have any of my credit card or bank account numbers (although that may change). And currently, their ads are easy to ignore – MUCH easier to ignore than those on YouTube, thank you.
Facebook is/was an astounding invention. One of those “right place/right time” kinda things. It changes everything- from the way advertisers see us to the way we think about ourselves and what we share with others. Personally, I love it. I wish Mark and Co. continued success.
