According to an international team of scientists, there is a hole in the moon so large it might one day be used to shelter a lunar colony.
The size of a city block and nearly 300 feet deep, the hole is believed to be a collapsed lava tube, formed at a time when there was still volcanic activity on the moon.
Experts say such a tube could provide shelter to future explorers and colonists, protecting them from radiation and meteor strikes.
Researchers at the Japanese space agency JAXA made the discovery, using data from its moon-orbiting SELENE spacecraft.
