Shouldn’t a mechanical invention that replaces something as simple as a paper towel actually result in an improvement? If you are like me, when you see one in a public restroom, and they are the only option, you are not a happy camper.

If they work at all, it takes forever to dry your hands. This is accomplished by rubbing your hands vigorously under the airflow and hitting the button three or four times to actually get 3/4 of the way to dry. Otherwise, you coming out of that bathroom looking like you peed all over yourself, because the only way you can get your hands dry is to rub them right on your pants.

Paper towels are far better than automatic hand dryers, unsanitary properties and all. They only advantage I can see is that they eliminate the possibility of paper towels ending up on the floor in out of way locations where nobody is around to check the floor for trash regularly.

Does anybody out there actually like these monstrosities?

I hate these things. The last time I used one I had to wipe my hands on my pants. Saw lots of water on the floor where people were obviously shaking their hands to get them dry. What a waste!

PS – These are not as bad as those automatic flushing toilets though. The last one I used sprayed my butt and surrounding area, just after I dropped a big one. Couldn’t wait to get home and into the shower.

  2. I hate most of them, but there are a few that are excellent:

I first encountered one of these at a Cinemark in Chicago, and was “blown away.” Forgive the pun.

They have a few of them in restaurants here and there, the mall–but not nearly enough.

Great invention; I don’t think I’ve ever had my hands come out wet.

Most of these hand dryers are crap, but I did use one that worked great. However, when I pushed the button to turn it on, I thought a jet was landing in the bathroom. The dryer was very loud, but the air blew so hard, my hands were dry in no time. I still prefer paper towels though…
