65 years ago this guys dad shot the film blow along Kalakaua Ave. in Waikiki capturing spontaneous celebrations that broke out upon first hearing news of the Japanese surrender. Kodachrome 16mm film: God Bless Kodachrome, right?

He was able to find an outfit (mymovietransfer.com) to do a much superior scan of the footage to what he had previously posted, so re-did this film and replaced the older version There are more still images from this amazing day, in color, at discoveringhawaii.com

    What a wonderful clip! After all the death and destruction these men had encountered, it does your heart good to see them so happy knowing they had defeated the enemy and that America was behind them, proud of them, and supported their efforts to be victorious after our land was attacked.
